We meet the Pel's Fishing Owl on May 3, 2024.
I was on a trip with Kabir Menon, an Indian birder, and we had the opportunity to photograph this amazing owl.
It is one of three African Scotopelia species that specialize in catching frogs and toads, fish and other freshwater animals. At night they go hunting: they dive down from their perch and then skim close to the water. They then return with the prey to the perch where they consume their prey.
